Jeroen & Marieke
Hey Hello, we are Jeroen & Marieke.
We live and work in Zevenhuizen, just above Rotterdam. When our relationship started, in 2007, Jeroen shared a Beagle named Droopy with his parents. Sadly, Droopy passed away at the age of 13.5 years in early 2013. Marieke was also fond of Droop, but unfortunately she is allergic to dogs. In the summer of 2013 Jeroen confessed that he was missing a dog too much, that was the beginning of our search for a breed which Marieke reacted less allergic to but suited us like Droopy did. The self-willed and idiosyncratic nature of the Beagle appealed to us both and that was the starting point of our quest. |
Alain Alaerts, Dodgy Dog Basenjis, referred us to Beau's litter in Belgium. Alain's male ET, Akuaba N Eldorado Xtra Terrestrial, is Sir to this litter. In April 2014, Beau came to live with us and our Basenji adventure started. With Beau we completed all obedience courses with good results and we started doing agility. Beau is Dutch Junior Champion and Dutch Champion. In addition, we often go to the racetrack and the coursing field and enjoy long walks and cycling trips every day. Beau is loyal and loves going on any adventure we can think of.
Beau introduced us to the breed and in the following years we have learned a lot about the breed, bloodlines, health, showing and upbringing. We have welcomed several Basenjis as guests in our home when their humans were on vacation or on work trips. Both Beau and Jeroen & Marieke really enjoyed it. That is why we decided in the spring of 2018 that we would really like to add a Basenji female to our family. From our experience with Beau and all the other Basenjis we have seen and had the pleasure to meat in recent years, we immediately knew that we wanted another Basenji with a high amount of New African blood and with a pleasant character, good health and an elegant appearance. We therefore asked Janneke de Graaf, Suaralayn Basenjis, if we would be allowed on the waiting list for her first coming litter with Aoide (Aoide Princess of Burudika). In March 2019 we welcomed Illy into our family. Illy is all grown up and we have with, great pleasure, completed her 4 obedience courses. Agility and the Racetrack are our current activities with both Beau and Illy. In addition, Illy als is Dutch Junior Champion and Dutch Champion, and we are planning her first litter for winter 2023/2024 . She still enjoys running and playing with Beau and her other Basenji family members (Mirtillo, Aoide, Maeva, Finlay, Mazzer, Sira, Figo and Femm) and friends the most. |
